Vision

The founders of this competition are aware of the growing interest among pianists, teachers and their students, and the public, in the field of piano ensemble, ranging from piano duets and piano quartets (four players at two pianos) to music scored for up to eight or more pianos. New professional teams and their recordings are quickly emerging. The North West International Piano Ensemble Competition is to encourage players who are serious about their art to have a vehicle for competition and to showcase traditional, unusual, and rarely performed works involving teams of two or four performers. Since this type of competition is rare, and as electronic communication knows no geographic borders, the NWIPEC may well enjoy interest by pianists from well outside our own community.

Mission Statement

The NWIPEC has been established in order to attract the interest and participation of advanced pianists with music that is scored for either piano duet (two performers at one piano) or piano duo (two performers at two pianos). Though the term “piano ensemble” may include many other pianist groupings, we consider these the most appropriate initially. Further, we consider it important to explore new or formerly unknown works which competitors are likely to uncover in their preparation for this competition.

North West International Piano Ensemble Competition is managed by the North West Piano Ensemble Society
